Welcome to Saint Rita Catholic School, Alexandria, VA For over fifty years, St. Rita School has provided a quality Catholic education for children in grades Kindergarten through 8. St. Rita School was established in 1952 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chestnut Hill and has proudly served thousands of children since its opening. St. Rita is a strong Faith community which provides a roadmap for life for our students. Daily Religion classes, weekly Mass, outreach service projects and sacramental preparation deepen our students' understanding of their Faith and the Church. Our academic curriculum includes both core subjects, including reading, spelling, grammar, science, social studies, mathematics and enrichment courses, including music, P.E., art, library, computer technology and weekly instruction in French. Our Mission: Saint Rita School embraces the principle that 'the soul of education is the education of the soul' (Pope Pius XI). We are a small Catholic school dedicated to forming children intellectually and spiritually using the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church and the patrimony of Western Civilization. Our Philosophy: St. Rita School believes: Children are created in God's image and therefore have great dignity. Parents are the primary educators of their children and they glorify God by bringing their children closer to Him. Education enhances a child's potential to glorify God. The school is to teach a strong academic curriculum, the tenets of the Catholic Faith, and the habits of mind and traits of character that are essential for success in this world and the next. Teachers are to be living models of faith, animated by love and generosity, and capable of forming young minds and hearts. The parish supports this Catholic education of children by providing prayer, the presence of priests and volunteers, and financial subsidies. We bring children to the Lord by: praying for the children entrusted to our care; demonstrating Christ's love for each child; fostering a spirit of Christian love, joy and service; forming the conscience and encouraging repentance; and providing various religious exercises and devotions. Following the example of our patroness, Saint Rita, we strive to instill in our students the virtues of patience, perseverance, forgiveness, acceptance of suffering, and a desire for peace.
