Zen Buddhism is a distinctive tradition which has its origins in the teachings of the Indian monk and scholar Bodhidharma. He came to China in 520 CE. The word Zen derives from the Chinese word 'Ch'an' which itself comes from the Sanskrit word 'dhyana' meaning 'meditation'.
